Last night of Chanukah

Things sure are different without having kids at home. Chanukah just doesn't seem to be the same. Here is the menorah on the last night, tonight. It will be put away for another year. So sad.

New Kitchen?

Well, Ed had someone over yesterday to give us their idea on what we should do with our very small kitchen. I am very ambivalent about redoing the kitchen. In one way I really want to move to a 55 and over community, but in another way, I do love the layout of my house, just that there is not one project completed! There is always an obstacle, (usually called, ED) in my way. I would have finished the living room, but because HE isn't ready to get a new T.V., I need to wait until I look for a new wall unit or console. Right now we have a very large projection T.V., which works just fine, but I can't get a unit around it as I know that when it goes, we are going to get a flat screen. It is sooo frustrating. So right now, I guess we will just concentrate on the kitchen for now. It will always be a good renting or selling point in the future, and we can enjoy it now. when we decide what we are going to do, I will post a picture of what it looks like now, the plans, and when it is finished, the final look.

Please wish me well with this project, and that we don't "kill" each other!

Chanukah Dinner

Here is a pic of mom and dad, he's almost 84 and she is 80.

I know that I am a little bit late in publishing this, but between dinner on Saturday, cleaning up for almost 2 days and work, I just haven't found the time until tonight to upload my pictures from our "Chanukah dinner". Here is a picture of Ed and myself that night, and one of Aaron and Stefanie. I must say that dinner was wonderful. My son, Aaron and his fiance, Stefanie, got me a beautiful knife set. I have been working with the same dull knives for about 35 years now. I was a little annoyed with them, as they are living on loans. He is in medical school and she is in pastry school.

We had a great time and a lot of laughs. Dinner was great! the meat was so tender that you didn't even need a knife to cut it. My sister-in-law wants to know my secret for always having a perfect brisket. Do you think I should give her my family secret?

Stefanie made all of my cookies for the cookie exchange that I signed up for at work. I think she was in her glory, just baking all evening after dinner.
I could go on, but I'
m sure that you don't want to hear all about the trivial stuff.

Latkes!

It's that time of year again when we get out the Menorah and dreidels and the start to cook and clean for the holiday of Chanukah
Today has been a very busy day. I started off food shopping for our Chanukah dinner tomorrow night. I know that it will be a day early, but my son and future wife insist on going to Tampa on Sunday for two weeks to visit her parents.

I have all ready cooked up the brisket and made the potato Latkes. Here is a picture of them cooking and ready to eat. I already have one oil burn on a finger from cooking.

I now have to finish cleaning so that the cleaning man can come and CLEAN! Crazy isn't it?

I just want to thank my friend, Carrie, from Oregon, for tagging this blog as one to read. A big thank you, Carrie. What a wonderful acknowledgment from an internet friend.

Well, better get back to preparations. Will get back soon.

Full Moon

Last night was the brightest and fullest moon we have had in 15 years. I went outside to take some pictures. Here is the one that I thought was the best out of the bunch. It was so bright that I thought that I had left the outside light on when I went to bed. The picture doesn't do it justice, but it was beautiful all the same.

Christmas ornaments

Here are two of the Christmas ornaments that I have made for my co workers for gifts for this year. The snowman is my only feeble attempt to hand draw an ornament. Last year I had only been there about 3 weeks and was not prepared to give anyone any gifts. I was very embarrassed when I started to received gifts from some of them. This year I am prepared with about 15 ornaments.

I have been fighting a cold for about a week now, Well, last Tuesday, it decided to rear its ugly head. I have been home sick now for two days. My head is so stuffy. Nothing seems to be working. I just feel so under pressure to get my holiday cards, shopping and mailing out of the way. Today, I did mail away some small gifts for my eldest son, Jason and daughter-in-law, Kim, and also my step daughter, Emilie. Never again. They can either get checks or I will shop through the internet. The boxing and mailing costs more than the little gifts did! I really like them to be able to open things up, but not at this cost.

Well, I'm just going to take a nap, maybe I'll write more tonight or catch you all up tomorrow.

altered mirror

Here are a few pictures of an altered mirror that I did.

Thanksgiving and after

Thanksgiving was a world wind. My parents and I flew up to New Jersey on Wednesday morning. My husband, Ed, had decided that he was no longer going to go up north anymore when it was cold. Oh, well, his loss. We had a blast. I saw all of my cousins that live in the area, along with my aunts and brother-in-laws family. There must have been about 20 bottles of wine consumed for thanksgiving, with only about 8 people drinking! I will post pictures later in the week.

I taught my nephew how to use my camera. He was having a ball just shooting pictures. I can now say that I was there!

We went to my nephew, Brian's hockey game. I managed to get a few good pictures of him skating during the game. It really is hard to get action shots thru Plexiglas. Again, pictures will be posted later.

Coming home was not as bad as I expected. We only had a 45 minute delay on the tarmac. My niece, Heather, had a 3 hour delay into Miami, so she was able to get on our flight to Fort Lauderdale. She was back in her apartment before here original flight was to take off!

I was so hesitant to so into work on Monday because of the incident on Tuesday. All went well without anything being said. It has now been three days, so I think that I am safe and secure with my job. That is a load off my shoulders. We have been so busy at work, but have had fun, too. I am just exhausted! I have been going to bed by 9 P.M. and falling asleep in minutes.

Here are a few pictures of our pre holiday dinner. The first one is my father and my second cousin, David. the other one is just a random picture of a few of us just sitting around eating.

Did I do the wrong thing?

Wednesday, on my way way from work, I had a "guilt" thing happen.  I was helping a co-worker give a patient a drug.  About 15 minutes later I saw her draw up the same drug to give to this same patient again.  I said, we just gave that drug, and her response to me was" no we didn't, I removed that syringe a while ago and stopped giving it.  No the doctor wants it given a different way.  SO, on my way home, I called my supervisor and told her what had happened.  ( the actual version is a little longer and more detailed than this version.)  She said that she would look into it.

Well, on Wednesday, after I got off the plane, I had a message that I should be into work at7:15 A.M. on Monday.  I have been so worried that I did the right thing, or just jeopardized my job!  Monday morning seems to be such a long way off, but i am not looking forward to it.  I do not want to call (or maybe I do) my supervisor on her cell, just to find out what is going on.  I'm am so worried.  We need to have me work, even if it is only part time. I need to have courage to go to work on MOnday.  I almost would like to call in sick.

Butterfly World

Well, I finally got to go to Butterfly World. I have only lived in South Florida, with in minutes of the park, and have never been there. There really isn't much to the park, it's not like going to Disney. We did see many of the butterflies that are in the brochure, and plenty of finches. The hummingbirds were harder to see. As you can see, I have all ready uploaded my pictures.

CRAZY SATURDAY

Today started off the just the way a Saturday should, with a good facial that includes a back, arm and foot massage! I then went to get my nails done and then my hair. I called Ed, my spouse, about 11:30 AM to let him know just where I was in the beauty process as we where g-oing to get together with my middle son, Aaron and his fiance for lunch. At 12:20, my phone rang, and I could not hear anyone on the other end. I called back, and NOTHING!, not even a ring!!!!! "after a few minutes of trying to call, I realized that there was something definitely wrong with my phone. After lunch, Ed and I went to the Sprint store. They sent us to another store that has a service department. Because we didn't have a service contract, we would have to pay to get a new phone, but there were none to be had. If we wanted we could buy another phone and extend our contract by 2 more years! Well, that didn't sit well with Ed or with me. so off we went to make a few calls. First Ed called customer service, your can imagine the service we received. We finally ended up calling Palm, and they were able to fix the problem over the phone by backing up our info on our pc, and then putting the phone back to factory setting. Problem fixed, and no need to extend a contract or buy a new phone!

Now I hope to try and catch up on some e mails and then get to the scrapping mode! No new pics today, maybe tomorrow.

November 1.2008

I can't believe that it is November all ready. Today my son, future daughter-in-law, and husband went out for lunch together. It is about the only time that I see Aaron, as he is in medical school and studying very hard. this is his first year. His younger brother is in his second year of medical school! Aaron went into the Navy first, then college. Scott, went to college first and now is in the Air Force doing his medical school. My oldest, Jason, has been in the Navy for 11 1/2 years now. He is about 6 courses from his bachelors degree. I will post some pictures of the three of them. they haven't been all together in about 8 or 9 years because of their careers.

This is Scott with his cousin Heather.

The top photo is of Jason and me in Victoria, Canada this past September. the other picture is of Aaron.

October 27, 2008

I have been busy scrapping layouts and a few cards. i posted 2 of my cards on my favorite site, Scrapdango.com. I will try to post them here, but if I am unable to, you can view them there. We celebrated our 9th anniversary with 3 pound lobsters at our favorite restaurant, The Station House. After that, we continued the celebration at Friendly's with ice cream sundaes and sodas. Work has been slow. I was off work on Friday, so because my shingles pain is still with me, I opted to have another series of steroid injuections into my abdominal nerves. Thank G-d for drugs, as I didn't feel a thing. I am working tomorrow, and then off again on wednesday. i did apply for 2 jobs on line today. I sure hope that something comes up soon for full time. It is difficutl meeting the bills when you are only working about 25 hours a week!

Here is the first card that I made for my husband's aunt and uncle for their anniversary. We are seeing them Friday to celebrate with them.

October 6

I have been working on finishing up "old" layouts you know, doing the journeling. I find that the most difficult thing to do. Anyone else have that problem? Let me hear from you, and maybe we could give each other help in that department. I went to work today for a while. Sooo, boring, too much staff . Usually it is the other way around. Afterwards, I went to Jenny Craig to weigh in. Don't even know why I did, all I did was eat out every meal this weekend. Of course I gained about 2 1/2 pounds. It is such a struggle, especially since my husband won't loose weight and wants to eat out all the time. I told him this morning before leaving for work, that I am doing Jenny ALL week! We will see how long that lasts.

October 5

Did a few layouts yesterday and the day before. Will try and post them later today. I have started on my trip to Washington and to Victoria, Canada. I was a real nice trip except for the fact that my post shingle pain was still bothering me. YUCK!! I must admit, that I did get some good pics. I really enjoyed going with my son and daughter-in-law. I'm not too sure that they liked sleeping with me in the same room though. They BOTH said that I snored very loudly.

Last night DH and i went to a wedding on a party yacht on the inter coastal. we all got soaked as the bride and groom were saying their vows. Besides that, everyone had a good time.

I have DS and his fiance coming over for breakfast this morning. DH is suppose to go trap shooting, but I think that it is still raining, so he will be home too. I'm going to make it a lazy, scrappy day.

October 3, 3008

I am taking up the challenge of one of my favorite sites, Scrapdango, and creating a blog. this is my first attempt in writing. First, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a 50 something female, with three grown sons, a husband, and two cats. I love scrapping my photos and telling the story about them. My boys are 29, 27, and 25. the youngest two are in medical school and the oldest has been in the Navy for 11 years. the youngest is doing school thru the Air Force. the middle son, was in the Navy for 6 years, but didn't like it enough to stay any longer. My parents, who are 80 and 83, live about 2 miles from me. I speak to them every morning while going to work at the surgery center near me. I have one daughter-in-law, and one about to be daught-in-law. I really do love them both.
